Presentation Rubric

It was customary in the schools for teachers to mark and assess the work of the students, including projects and homework. But this is changing with alternative methods such as rubrics, which make the assessment, teaching and learning easier for teachers; also gives the students independence. Teachers can now give students projects or other performance task which they can utilize with presentation rubric.

There are numerous ways of generating rubric and it allows the students to have all the necessary criteria ahead of time, which will hopefully help them to produce quality work. Projects are good assessments and while students are doing research they garner different skills than they would in regular class work or end of term testing. When teachers give projects they usually explain the schedule for the project, the work to be done, the evaluation and the rubrics criteria.

When grading the student’s presentation rubric, there are some criterions that the instructors or teachers would be focusing on. These are organization, subject knowledge, mechanics, visual aids, eye contact, verbal techniques and group work. It is important that the students know in advance how the project would be graded.

When projects are given sometimes it would require individual, pairs or groups to carry out the necessary work. For the assignments that are tailored for individuals the researcher has to cover the ground work and that person is responsible for every stage; this can put a burden on how they deliver.

The project is outlined with all the requirements, there are some steps that will help the students to gather information and meet the deadlines. They are as follows:

The first step is collecting all the information that is relevant to the topic using all available resources.
The second step is to summarize the information; they should acquire skills to paraphrase and summarize prior to getting assignments. This is important as they have to know what resources are relevant to their research topic and summarize it accordingly.

The third step is to write and record the information according to their project guidelines. The information has to flow throughout the different chapters and another important aspect is learning the mechanics of what to be at the beginning and ending of the project; such as references and indexes.

The fourth step is preparing for your final presentation rubric; this is a crucial stage as most of your assessment is focus on this level. There are numerous ways of doing a presentation and this can include poster, PowerPoint, demonstrations and how the written project was handed in.

The last step would be ensuring that your project reflects all that was to be included in your research and that you had presented in a professional manners. The teachers can now help the students in class to reflect on what they had done, if any changes and also offer encouragement for future projects.
The presentation rubric is simpler for teachers to grade as essential parts are outlined, the scale with scoring points, descriptors with the different levels to be judged and criteria which describes the performance standards.
